IMS2024 Conference Information

Welcome to IMS2024 in Washington D.C.!
We are thrilled to welcome you to IMS2024, taking place in Washington D.C.! The last time D.C. hosted IMS was in 1980, and over the past 44 years, both the industry and the city have undergone significant changes.

Washington D.C. is a kaleidoscope of tastes, flavors, sounds, and sights. From Georgetown's cobblestone streets and historic houses to the Wharf's sleek new restaurants and funky music venues, the District's many neighborhoods each have their own unique identity. Beyond the political headlines, the American capital pulses with energy. Whether you're sleeping just blocks away from the White House or dining within walls that have hosted leaders from around the world, Washington will not disappoint you.

About Washington D.C.
Named after one of the USA's founding fathers, George Washington, who later became the first president of the United States, Washington D.C. is the nation's capital. Unlike border states Maryland and Virginia, D.C. is its own district - the District of Columbia, named after Columbia, the female personification of the nation.

Washington, D.C., was a planned city. In 1791, President George Washington commissioned French-born architect and city planner Pierre (Peter) Charles L'Enfant to design the new capital, with help from Scottish surveyor Alexander Ralston. The L'Enfant Plan featured broad streets and avenues radiating out from rectangles, providing room for open space and landscaping. This design was inspired by plans of other major world cities, including Paris, Amsterdam, Karlsruhe, and Milan.

In June, the weather in D.C. averages a high of 85oF (29oC) and a low of 63oF (17oC). Expect rain once every 3-4 days. We hope you take in the sights, sounds, and smells of D.C. during your visit.

IMS2024 Program Schedule
Tuesday, June 18
TUMA11: Screening of the mmWave Signal Loss Properties of Copper Foils without the Need for Test Circuit Manufacturing
Speaker: Malgorzata Celuch
Organization: QWED Sp. z o.o.
Time: 12:45 - 13:00
Location: MicroApps Theater, Booth 2159
Abstract: Presentation of new techniques for characterizing loss properties of copper foils used in microwave and mmWave circuits without the need for test circuit manufacturing.

TUMA2: 2D Scanner for Surface-Wise Measurements of Complex Permittivity of Emerging LTCC and ULTCC Materials
Speaker: Marzena Olszewska-Placha
Organization: QWED Sp. z o.o
Time: 09:45 - 10:00
Location: MicroApps Theater, Booth 2159
Abstract: Presentation of an automated 2D SPDR scanner setup for surface-wise measurements of complex permittivity of dielectric substrates, essential for 5G/6G communication technologies.

TUMA3: Application of Microwave Imaging Techniques for the Characterization of Ion-Implanted Battery Materials
Speaker: Malgorzata Celuch
Organization: QWED Sp. z o.o.
Time: 10:00 - 10:15
Location: MicroApps Theater, Booth 2159
Abstract: This seminar presents a surface scanning technique utilizing a 10GHz dielectric resonator head for characterizing thin-film solid-state battery (TFSSB) materials. Carbon coatings on quartz substrates undergo low-energy ion implantation (LEII). Surface resistance, as observed by microwaves, serves as an indicator of the materials’ suitability as cathodes in solid-state batteries. The seminar highlights new applications of microwave technologies in the battery field, benefiting attendees by enhancing understanding of field-matter interactions.

Wednesday, June 19

WEMA3: Ultra-Fast Electromagnetic Simulation Tool for Coaxial Connectors and Large-Scale Axisymmetric Reflector Antennas
Speaker: Marzena Olszewska-Placha
Organization: QWED Sp. z o.o.
Time: 10:00 - 10:15
Location: MicroApps Theater, Booth 2159
Abstract: Presentation of a vector 2D FDTD-Bessel hybrid solver for designing and simulating axisymmetric structures, highlighting the efficiency improvements and hardware acceleration techniques.

WEMA14: Characterization of Solid and Liquid Materials for 5G/6G Applications in 1-130 GHz Range
Speaker: Marzena Olszewska-Placha
Organization: QWED Sp. z o.o.
Time: 12:45 - 13:00
Location: MicroApps Theater, Booth 2159
Abstract: Presentation of measurement fixtures for characterizing solid dielectrics and low-loss liquids within the 1-130 GHz frequency range, addressing the need for precise material characterization for 5G/6G technologies.
