The 16th German Microwave Conference (GeMiC 2025) was hosted by Dresden University of Technology in cooperation with IMA e.V. and VDE/ITG, bringing together professionals and researchers in RF and microwave technologies.

We extend our sincere thanks to all participants, speakers, and sponsors who helped create a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere. It was an inspiring gathering for RF experts, filled with cutting-edge presentations and meaningful exchanges.

Special Session: WS03 Workshop on Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Characterization
March 17, 2025 | ?? 19:15
Dresden Transport Museum – A Hub of Innovation and History

We were proud to co-organize and contribute to the workshop:
"WS03 – Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Characterization of Materials in the 1–170 GHz Range"
Organized by:
• Marzena Olszewska-Placha (QWED Sp. z o.o., Poland)
• Bart³omiej Salski (Warsaw University of Technology, QWED Sp. z o.o., , Poland)
• Andreas Henkel (Rohde & Schwarz, Germany)

Workshop Focus

This workshop showcased state-of-the-art and novel techniques for material characterization in the microwave and millimeter-wave spectrum.
Part 1: 1–30 GHz Range
• Characterization of dielectrics, semiconductors, and copper foils
• Tools: SPDR
and Q-SCR resonators
• Emphasis on resonant measurement methods
Part 2: 15–170 GHz Range
• Wideband material characterization using the Fabry-Perot Open Resonator (FPOR)
.

Key Topics Covered:

• Comparative analysis of method capabilities and limitations
• Measurement accuracy, error sources, and uncertainty evaluation
• Hands-on sessions with:
o Device developers and manufacturers
o Rohde & Schwarz Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) systems
o Live operation and training in material measurement techniques

At the Rohde & Schwarz booth, we showcased a complete material measurement setup featuring:
• FPOR resonator connected to R&S VNA
• A collaborative display of practical characterization solutions
