4 Microstrip filter

This example is available in .../QW-3D/Standard/Filters/Msfilter/msfilter.QWPro in the QW-Modeller examples directory and can be loaded using File®Open Examples... command from main menu.
The python script for this example is available in the msfilter folder in the QW-Modeller macros directory. The main msfilter.py script can be loaded using Macro®Macros... command from main menu.

In this example we will consider a microstrip line filter. In case of planar structures we are able to analyse the metal strips/patches as an infinitely thin PEC elements (so called thin layers). This means that we do not have to introduce small cell size (resulting from the strip thickness) to the project, which would increase the simulation time leading to the stable results and that way we can speed up the calculations. In QuickWave, thin layers drawn in XY plane (zero thickness along Z axis) can only be considered.
Let us prepare the microstrip line filter project taking advantage of thin layers. In the first step we set the Circuit Type to be 3D and Background Medium as air, because we will surround the structure with absorbing boundary conditions. The units should be set to millimetres.

The project creation process can be divided into several steps:
