2.3.5       Balanced antipodal Vivaldi antenna

This example of QW-3D application is identical with the benchmark presented in October 2000 issue of Microwave Engineering Europe. Its description including a detailed geometry of the structure can be found on the web page:

http://www.mwee.com/magazine/2000/cad_benchmark.html.

QW-3D version of the project is provided in the file: ..\Antennas\Vivaldi\vivaldi.pro. The shape of the antenna and its surroundings has been generated with a customised UDO script ../examples/vivaldi.udo. In vivaldi.udo there are calls to flare.udo and trans.udo, which can also be found in the UDO library: examples. These two UDO’s generate specific shapes of the metal strips of the antenna with circular or elliptical edges. They can be considered as examples of generation of such shapes. In this project the antenna is surrounded by Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) absorbing boundaries generated by the library object: boxes/pmlntf.udo. Fig. 2.3.5‑1 presents the results of |S11| calculations of the structure after 10000 FDTD iterations.
