1.1 Signal modelling technique
As mentioned before, the QProny module uses the Generalised Pencil of Function Method (GPOF) [5] to create the highest quality models. This technique builds a model of a signal in the form of a superposition of damped sinusoids.

The GPOF method is a variant of Prony's technique. It uses the singular value decomposition of the matrix consisting of decimated signal samples, to span the signal space on singular vectors corresponding the first P singular values. The damping factors si >0 and the angular frequencies wi of each sinusoid are extracted from the eigenvalues of the P by P matrix constructed from left and right singular vectors [5].
